TL;DR Eli is a fantasy-world emo kid. Born a noble in a kingdom of sunlight in the Feywilds, he rebelled against expectations by seeking power in the Shadowfell, and achieved it (at some personal cost). He is blunt, bold, short-tempered and sarcastic, but has a soft side for freaks and weirdos. He loves magic and science and anything dark/macabre. His soul-type is spectral, specifically drawing inspiration from a phobophage, an entity that feeds on fear.
Lil more background: Eli grew up spoiled and sheltered and never felt like he "fit" in his role as a noble, and found the expectations of him intolerably stifling. Rebellious by nature, as soon as he hit adolescence he sought out the direct opposite of what was expected of him; the Shadowfell. A friend of his accompanied him on his harrowing adventures there.
After a gruelling trial to find the Goddess of Night, Nita, she blessed them with power in hopes they would continue fighting for her goal to overtake the realms with darkness. Eli doesn't believe in this vision, per se, nor does he believe he answers to anyone, but he does want to keep fighting, and bring more balance to the world in the form of a more even power balance between day and night.

appearance
Elijah is short and small; he wishes he weren't. Any short jokes will be met with wrath (so please make them). Born a high elf with white hair, green eyes and freckles, his time in the shadowfell has begun to corrupt his appearance slightly, turning his extremities black. He dresses in all black and red, wears a lot of silver jewelry and a bit of black makeup. He has a prosthetic foot below his right knee, where he lost his foot and part of his calf in a battle.
spells
Elijah is multiclassed as a hexblade warlock and a fighter (eldritch knight). The below spells/features are from D&D 5e, 2014 rules, except comprehend languages which is from the 2024 rules (to include sign languages). All of these spells are weakened in Karteria and expend a lot of energy/focus to use.

abilities
Combat
Eli is highly dextrous and trained in fighting with two light weapons (namely, his daggers). He can channel some of his magic through the daggers to make his attacks more powerful (See the āstaggering smiteā spell). He can also attack with magic at long range.
Biological Abilities
āØāØAs a high elf, Eli has darkvision to a range of 60 feet. He also doesnāt need to sleep, entering instead into something called reverie for 4 hours a night, where he relives past memories in vivid detail. Rarely dreams.
Mundane Abilities
Eli is smart and easily picks up on anything related to magic, science, and technology. He can draw, and was working on developing a rudimentary form of tattooing (basically stick and poke), which he practiced on himself. He did all of his piercings himself as well, and likes to dissect small animals. He can make poisons and low-level magic potions.

soul info
Phobophage: This demonic entity was born from the nightmares of mortals, woven together by darkness. Since it is composed of fear itself, it feeds on fear to survive and grow stronger, thus it needs to stoke the highest amount of terror possible in its victims.
Original appearance: 5 foot tall high elf, pale with white hair and blackened extremities. Freckles and green eyes.
Shifted appearance: Something like this, with black horns, clawed fingers and toes, a long thin tail, sharp pointed teeth, and tentacle-like tendrils of shadow coming off of him in every direction. Somewhat incorporeal. A bit taller but still only about 5ā6ā not including horns.
Half-shifted/fully corrupted appearance: Black extremities lightening to grey on his main body/face, white glowing eyes with black sclerae, horns, claws, black/white hair. More or less has the same size and shape as his elven form, though his extremities become less corporeal. REF
Powers & Weaknesses:
His magic powers from his world (detailed above) are significantly weaker and more difficult to use in Karteria, day or night. He becomes tired very easily from using magic.
Daytime:
In the day, Elijah can use dark magic, can levitate for short periods of time, can cause fear, and can use minor glamours/illusions with some effort. The rest of his spectral power is inaccessible.
In addition, being exposed to sunlight for too long makes him feel ill, similar how motion sickness feels, and he gradually gets increasingly fatigued. These effects take a little while to wear off even once heās in darkness again.
Nighttime:
At night, whether shifted or not, he can: possess people, levitate for longer periods, cause intense feelings of fear in people near him, use glamours, control wildlife, turn into a black cat with green eyes, manipulate dreams, and use dark magic.
Additionally: he can now sense fear at a range of about 100 feet and knows what direction it's coming from, day or night.
Mental Changes:
Current: tendency toward negative emotions, vengeful attitude (esp toward Patho-Gen), loitering in graveyards and places heās not invited, hunger for the fear of others (and finding pleasure in scaring people), resentment of living creatures (manifesting mostly as jealousy toward people who have blood and body heat, as these are desirable things to his bfs and he has a complex about not being able to provide it for them anymore), altered morality (struggling with the ethics of feeding on fear and giving in a bit too easily to the temptation of scaring innocent people on purpose)
Corruption Log
May 2025: Increased darkening of his extremities, which he hasnāt thought much of yet. Greying of the tips of his hair and the whites of his eyes.
June 2025: Further darkening of extremities, sclerae, and hair. Sharpened canine teeth. Eyes turning gold. By the END of the month, will begin to feel horns breaking through his scalp, and burns beginning on his fingers, toes, and eartips. The burns are a result of the incompatibility of the demon soul with mortal flesh and are very painful.
July 2025: The Faustian burns move up Eli's arms and legs and appear to be transforming him as they go. His fingers are now unaffected by the burns, but are black and clawed, slightly scaly. This month his residual limb will be affected by the burn and he won't be able to wear his prosthetic, so he will only be out at night when he can easily levitate where he needs to go. The burns on his ears creep toward his face. Tiny black horns poke up through his greying hair, and his eyes are turning more golden with grey sclerae.
August 2025: The burns continue to move up his arms and legs, now at his upper arms and thighs. The burns on his ears are encroaching onto his face. He is starting to get really worried about what will happen when they reach his vital organs. In the wake of the burns, his limbs are transformed- darkened, without bloodflow, clawed, a bit scaly. The horns on his head are lengthening and maturing.
End of August/Early September: Spectral death!!! The burns will indeed consume his vital organs and kill him extremely painfully. While dying, he wont be able to see and will hallucinate many a dark and shadowy thing, truly believing his soul is being claimed by the shadow realm once and for all. Fun! He will then be dead for a day or two and wake up looking something like this.
September 2025 onward: Now undead, his body is composed of... Well, something like flesh, but it's not alive, held together and preserved by shadowstuff. He produces no body heat; his body sits at ambient temperature. He does not have blood, a heartbeat or pulse, and does not need to breathe or eat, though he can eat if he wants to. He still needs to enter reverie (aka sleep). His hunger for fear is now his primary sense of hunger and needs to be sated more often. He is mostly immune to the effects of Katalyth.
December 2025: Eli experiences an intense pain in his neck, passes out, and has a weird hallucination. Unfortunately, these things all feel commonplace to him now. He wakes up feeling different, but can't put his finger on how. During this month, is non-dominant (right) arm will become more... Floppy. It's harder to grip stuff, harder to get it to move the way he wants it to. Very weird; hijinks will ensue, probably.

Job & Housing
Eli and Cassius live just outside the barrier, near the village of defectors, on a very large plot of abandoned land. Cassius is building/growing a garden there, and they live in a small shack that they're slowly fixing up and making more homey. They use rainwater and water from the river nearby to drink and bathe, and Jayce has helped them with solar power to power some small electronics and such. For the winter, Eli was mysteriously gifted a katalyth-powered stove (for heat and cooking) and a sun lamp for Cassius, powered in the same way (and both appliances can also run on feelings. Probably best not to think about it too much).
Eli has done some crimes (murdering PG staff) which means he is currently doing community service and has an anklet that makes him pass out if his adrenaline spikes for over a minute. However, he's still pursuing art, putting some of his charcoal drawings in Hugo's gallery, and wants to get a job in a tattoo/piercing shop whenever his punishment is over. He also intends to stay on the exploration teams. He will leave the science to the scientists, but does like hearing about it, and also aids them when he can by finding and delivering samples and sharing info from his excursions. He's actively trying to build more rapport with defectors and is also interested in the Aparallaxia restoration project.

background
TW: psychosis, amputation
Elijah was born to King Verran and Queen Cithanesti, powerful archfey of the Dawn Court. He grew up in the Sun Palace, completely spoiled and sheltered. However, he was never happy. He was always an emotional and angry child, prone to tantrums and outbursts. He was restless, as though always seeking an outlet. In truth, he never felt he was born in the right place or the right body. He sussed out one of these problems quickly, announcing to everyone almost as soon as he could talk that he was not, in fact, a girl, but a boy. Yes, yes, fine, placate the royal boy, whatever. Give him whatever he wants. Once magically transformed into a boy, though, he still felt out of place.
The deep unhappiness with his place in the world grew into a heated resentment through his adolescence, a hatred of everything noble, of the expectations placed on him to conform to high fey society. He rebelled and ran away, seeking something he'd heard and read about but wasn't even sure truly existed: a land of darkness, the Shadowfell.
He was caught and punished for running away, but that only made his fascination and determination grow, and now it was his sole goal to get there. At this point he became closer to a magic classmate of his, Amostia, who was also fascinated by the Shadowfell. The two plotted to find the realm without getting caught. They bonded over the mutual thrill of breaking the rules they'd both come to loathe deeply.
They probably looked insane for the way they cheered upon finding themselves in a land of misery, darkness, and dread. But for both of them, there was relief, excitement, and thrill. Something totally different than they'd ever known, and what's more- freedom. From family obligations, expectations, and other shackles of noble life. Here, they could do or be whatever they wanted.
Eli and Amos had years of adventures in the Shadowfell. This was a period of growth for Eli, where he found he finally had an outlet for all his pent up energy. He found a connection with the darkness that came more easily than any of the magic he'd tried to learn before. His pact was much less a bargain with a deity and more an easy acceptance of power, regardless of its side effects. He found a weapon, he learned to weave the darkness through it and through his spells, and he became stronger at an alarming rate.
However, of course, the Shadowfell is a dangerous and terrifying place, filled with ominous dread that gets to all mortals eventually, no matter how at home they feel in darkness. Eli set out one day to try to find Nita in her Moon Prism, and upon reaching her impossible maze, he began to go mad. He got lost in the maze and gave into hopelessness and despair within hours, his mind collapsing in on itself. By the time Adri found him, he was clawing at himself and screaming at hallucinations. Adri expertly navigated them out of the maze, carrying the small idiot to safety to recover. However, his mind was never quite the same after that- he continued to hallucinate to a lesser degree (and still does to this day), and occasionally gave into paranoia and delusion when under significant stress. His prolonged time in the Shadowfell likely induced this long-term effect. He is also plagued by vivid nightmares. Amostia felt the effects of the Shadowfell physically, his body becoming frail and sickly, his veins turning black. Neither boy gave up on the place.
The next time Eli sought Nita, he was more prepared, and brought allies with him. Amostia, Adri, Hugo, and Yvette. The five navigated the maze and talked each other back from the brink of madness several times, but then encountered monsters, including a Chorosine.
At the height of the battle with the ferocious creature, Eli leapt in front of Amostia to take a fatal blow for him. The Chorosine's blade cut clean through Eli's calf, amputating him instantly. Shocked and horrified though he was, he knew he had to act quickly or he would die. Adri's healing was not enough for such a grave injury, so Eli summoned fire and cauterized his own leg, screaming through excruciating pain before blacking out.
When he came to, he was being carried by Adri, and saw a woman dressed in dark, twinkling robes. Near-delirious with pain and impending madness though he was, he will always remember vividly what Nita said to them. She commended their strength and determination to find this place. She praised Adri for being a loyal champion of the night. She said that the newer adventurers to the Shadowfell, Eli and Amostia, had not evaded her notice, and she had been watching them curiously to see how far their dedication to darkness would go. She was pleasantly surprised to see the kind of suffering Eli was willing to endure toward his goal, and said this seemed promising.
"Elijah and Amostia, you both were born bathed in light. You hold positions of privilege and power in the land of sunshine, and yet you both knew something was missing, and you sought the darkness. You persevered even as it caused you both suffering, your faith in the night unwavering. In exchange for your efforts, and with the hope that you both will continue to fight against Soothea, I bestow upon you my blessing."
She reached out her hands and healed Eli (though did not regenerate his leg), then gave them both renewed and strengthened magical power. Nita also gifted Eli the daggers he currently uses.
Eli lives now as an adventurer, travelling around from place to place in the Feywilds and Shadowfell.
