Is there an ideal place for necromancy? There's a graveyard I've been hanging out at. Or is that a stereotype or something.

That's inconvenient. Is it a sunlight thing or an actual temporal restriction, do you think? You could always try carrying an umbrella.

[But that probably wouldn't be enough to make it perfect, just slightly more bearable. Maybe?]

I'm not a bone magician, so a graveyard doesn't do much for me either way. I don't mind it as a meeting place, though.

[Like a red one or something? Eli has an #aesthetic, which Palamedes can respect. But getting an emergency umbrella vs. being stuck indoors for many hours...]

Personally I wouldn't put "cool" and "umbrella" in the same sentence.

[Mayyyyybe a black one would be fine. He's still gonna be embarrassed by using it, though, like he's some kind of delicate flower.]

[When he hangs up, he sends Pal the address of the cemetery he usually spends time at. It's near-ish the Valentia.

When Pal shows up, he won't see Eli, but there will be a small black cat with green eyes trotting up to him. Eli has been spending time in this cat form as an escape from corruption bullshit, and kind of wants to see how long it'll take Pal to realize the cat is him- he's smart, so he figures not long. He mews at Pal and circles his feet.]

[Alright, edgy. Palamedes lets him hang up without arguing about the umbrellas; it's off to the cemetery in the middle of the night, apparently.

It's fine, he really doesn't have anything to do, and he is already up. He heads out right then, so it's only a few minutes before he turns up to look around for Eli.

...But there's a cat, which is new. Palamedes has not, like, interacted with cats very much, so his first response is to just stop in his tracks, lest he step on this little creature.]

Oh, hi.

[Eli meows back at him, head craning up to look at Pal. Then he has the horrifying thought that Pal might try to pet him, and that could make things awkward, so he decides to change back into his regular form. A cloud of darkness surrounds the cat and grows upward until it's about Eli's height. Then it dissipates, revealing Elijah in its wake. He's levitating, no prosthetic, no shoe. His black clawed foot is bandaged at the ankle. He wears a hoodie with the hood up and his hands shoved in his pockets to hide the rest of the corruption, but it's more of the same.]

Hey.

[In Palamedes' defense, he was probably just going to stand there and look at the cat. But oh, alright; he raises an eyebrow, but sure, apparently some people can do that now.]

Ah, there you are. I couldn't find an umbrella.

[Or he would have brought it along, is the obvious implication. Spared one gray umbrella from the Palamedes Collection...]

[Eli snorts.]

That's fine. I'm picky about these things, so I'll find my own.

[But it would seem, at least, that Pal has convinced Eli to swallow his distaste around the whole umbrella concept. Through the power of friendship, or nagging, or whatever.]

There's a good bench over here.

[Eli leads him to a bench along the path. The moon is out tonight in full, which is good for those like Pal who probably can't see well in the dark. He sits, turning to Pal, his elbow on the back of the bench.]

I'm all ears for whatever you wanna share.

[Off to the bench, then. Palamedes will check up on the status of Eli's umbrella next time, he'll make a mental note—

Anyway, he sits, one arm-tentacle rubbing his chin thoughtfully.]

Well, it's been most of my life, which is a pretty broad topic. Usually people have specific interests, the other times I've had this conversation.

[Wryly amused, because he does keep having the Necromancy 101 talk... It's usually even pleasant; he does like to educate about his version of necromancy, after all. So. He gestures.]

What would you like to know? I'll just start talking about my favorite papers I've read if you don't stop me.

[Eli watches the tentacle curiously. It's cool. He hopes he gets something cool out of this horrible corruption in the end.

Then he hums, giving it some thought.]

Well, my sister and I have always been interested in it, from a magical standpoint. Her interest comes from a desire to eliminate death from the world. To undo it or prevent it entirely, so that no one is ever entirely gone. I think... Well, one of her best friends died when we were all young, and she couldn't save her, and I think that fucked her up. My interest in it is very different... I just find death and undeath interesting in itself. Maybe the fact that necromancy is kind of forbidden where I'm from fuelled my initial experiments, but I find myself curious about death and what happens to bodies and souls after. I also have necromantic abilities from my patron, but I don't know who my patron is or what they're all about, so maybe if I learned more about necromancy, I could understand more about my powers and where they might come from.

I know a lot of magic from different schools of it, but the school of necromancy is shrouded in mystery because it's taboo. I want to understand the workings of it. It may work very differently between our worlds, but your perspective on its mechanics would be good to have anyway.
