Cas pulls him in so immediately, it's adorable, and the sounds of the excited squirm is a nice change from the silence that's often plagued this cabin since the kidnapping ordeal. Eli discards his shopping bags by the door for now and shuffles along behind Cas.
"Oh!"
Being from a place where it is never winter (unless you travel purposely to the winter court) and the sunlight never wanes, Eli has never experienced a traditional Christmas or even a winter solstice celebration. As such, decorated trees are new to him, though he's been seeing them around town. Still, it feels a little odd to see one inside his house.
"Awww! This is cute!" Cas is clearly stoked about this, and though he doesn't get the significance exactly, it is cute, and a very Cas thing to do. He goes up to the tree and probes the ornaments and branch-tips lightly with his fingers.
"Getting into the Karterian traditions, are we?" He has no idea this is a thing anywhere but here, had assumed it a weird Karteria-specific quirk.
"Yes. It is similar to a holiday the humans celebrated back in my world. They would decorate trees like this and hang lights from them. Then on the actual day of celebration, they would exchange gifts to show their gratitude for their loved ones." His squirm settles into something pleasant as he steps up next to Eli. "I could not grow trees in my Garden, so we could not join the celebrations in this way."
His gaze goes a little distant as he looks at the tree, memories flickering in light candlelight. "Despite the cold, I much enjoyed wandering through the streets to take in the homes strung with lights and all the shimmering things. It was... magical, I think is the right word. It is nice that the Karterians have a similar tradition."
No Santa Claws, though. How are the Karterians to receive their gifts if there is no Santa Claws to deliver them?
He steps closer, hand winding around Eli's arm as he slots into his side. "I am glad that you like it."
Eli hums thoughtfully at this explanation. Interesting.
"That's sweet. Like you." He leans up into his partner, pressing a kiss to his cheek.
"I do. It's charming. And you know I love a little knicknack." He pokes one of the ornaments again, a silvery sphere. "Where did you get all these thingies?"
That familiar rose scent thickens at the kiss, a happy rustle rolling through his petals. "The Karterians gave them to me. I believe it was due to a tradition of their own, for they stopped to hang their ornaments into my sweaters."
And wrap him in ribbon. And strung popcorn.
He beams in his Cassius way. "I was even gifted a colorful scarf. I have never been gifted so many things before."
"Oh?" Eli raises a brow at this, looking perplexed. Cassius seems pleased by these 'gifts', but...
"They were... Decorating you. Like a tree. Because you're a plant?" A bit of indignant anger sparks in his chest. Those fucking weirdos, treating his boyfriend like an object...
